Are you ready for a tale of unexpected passion and triumph? It all started when I had to major in Mass Communication at Lahore College for Women University. That’s right, I didn’t choose this path — it was chosen for me by circumstances beyond my control.
This wasn’t what I dreamed of…
Confused? Let’s get into a little flashback. I have always had an interest in Software engineering and my ultimate goal was to get into the University of Engineering & Technology (UET). Unfortunately, I couldn’t get in. I had an aggregate of 68.7 while the list closed at 69. Yes, that hurt the most. I was unable to fulfill my biggest dream because of 0.3 marks.
I had to give up on UET and I had to give up on Software engineering too. Why? Most people here must wonder why I gave up S.E. I could join any other university if I was so passionate.
Yes, I was passionate but all the other options were private universities which I was totally against. Though my parents could support me, I didn’t want to burn lacs in the name of passion.
To make things worse, I had cousins who were total overachievers, and I was always being compared to my big brother. It felt like I was living in their shadows, struggling to find my own path.
I got into Mass Comm…
Long story short: I got into Mass Comm at LCWU. And the first thing I hear is people asking me, “Why Mass Comm?” Like, excuse me, I am disappointed too but not as much as you people are. 🙄
After spending 4 years in a degree that I didn’t choose for myself, I realized it wasn’t so bad after all. Writing, designing, production — everything about Mass Comm spoke to me.
I was introduced to the world of writing through Mass Comm. Started to make a living out of it in 5th semester. Graduated with an A+ grade and a GPA of 3.57. Won writing competitions two times all over Pakistan and in 152 universities.
And after four years of hard work and dedication, I finally made it to the achievers’ wall at LCWU. And guess what? I’m the only one from my session up there! Can I get a heck yeah? 🎉
So, to all those who questioned my choice of degree, I have one thing to say: you snooze, you lose! Mass Comm was the field where I could thrive, where I could make a difference, and where I could truly be myself. And I am so grateful that I took that chance and followed where my destiny led me.
Moral of the Story
The moral of the story is this: Allah is the best planner, and sometimes, the turns our lives take are the ones we never would have expected. But that doesn’t mean we should lose hope or give up on our dreams.
Looking back, I realize that Allah had a plan for me all along. He knew what I needed to learn, the people I needed to meet, and the experiences I needed to have to become the person I am today.
And I know that each and every one of you has a unique journey that Allah has mapped out for you. You may face challenges, obstacles, and disappointments along the way, but don’t let that discourage you. Keep faith in Allah’s plan, and know that He has something better in store for you, even if it’s not what you had originally envisioned.
Trust that Allah is guiding you towards something greater, and never lose hope. The journey may be long and winding, but the destination is worth it.
May Allah bless us all and guide us toward the best path. Ameen.
